Medals

Aim:
Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals may be awarded biennially to members of the Society in each of the following categories:

  • Research (for members serving in a research capacity)
  • Technology transfer (for members providing advisory, consultative or educational services; and
  • Industry development (for members serving in the animal production industry)

Bronze Medals
In respect of achievements in a particular year pertaining to:

  • In the research category, a meritorious thesis, dissertation or other scientific publication relevant to research in the field of animal science;
  • In the technology transfer category, the application of innovative management systems or new techniques for the transfer of knowledge and technology regarding animal science and related fields; and
  • In the industry development category, as a deserving contribution towards the development and improvement of production in the livestock industry.

Silver Medals
In respect of achievements over a number of years pertaining to:

  • In the research category, an exceptionally deserving and orignal research effort or meritorious contributions which have been published in recognised and refereed scientific journals
  • In the technology transfer category, exceptional achievements or innovations of significant importance in the use and transfer of knowledge and technology regarding animal science and related fields; and
  • In the industry development category, exceptional contributions and involvement that significantly influenced and directed the development and improvement of production in the livestock industry.

Gold Medals
To a member of the Society who is at the end of his/her career and who has served animal science and the Society honourably and in such a distinguished manner that his/her quality of scientific contributions, achievements, involvement and extended service to South Africa's animal production industry has been recognised as exceptionally meritorious by many, both nationally and internationally.
