Oestrus was synchronized outside the normal breeding season in two groups of 25 and 30 dry Africander cows respectively by administration of progesterone in oil + PMS (group I) and progesterone in oil + prostaglandin + PMS (group II). 76,0% of group I exhibited oestrus during the period 48 to 192 h after PMS administration cf 73,3% in group II in the period 36 to 144 h after PMS administration. In both groups the highest incidence of oestrus was observed approximately 96 h after PMS administration. Of those inseminated, 68,4% in group I conceived at 1st insemination against 36,4 %in group II.
