Genetic parameters of weaning traits of Hereford calves.
The inheritance and interassociation of weaning traits for 912 Hereford calves, the progeny of 22 sires, collected over a period of 11 years, were studied. The estimates of heritability of the weaning traits were as follows: 0,36 ± 0,12 for birthmass; 0,21 ± 0,10 for 1DO-daymass; 0,27 ± 0,09 for weaning mass; 0,25 ± 0,08 for increase in mass to 100 days; 0,23 ± 0,11 for increase in mass (ADG) to weaning. Most of the genetic, phenotypic and environmental correlations between the traits studied were statistically significant.
